In the Bathroom: Water and Energy Saving Tips
- Use the WELS rating scheme when buying new bathroom appliances. The more stars your appliance has, the more water efficient it is!
- Tap aerators fit onto your existing taps and can save you 7-9 litres of water/minute without reducing your water pressure or the wash and rinse effect.
- Flow regulators/restrictors are easy to install onto your existing taps and have a very low cost. They do not affect water pressure but will limit the flow in your tap to 2 -12 litres/minute, instead of the usual 15-18 litres/minute.
- ‘Pre-water saving’ showerheads use approximately 20 litres of water/minute. However many WELS three star rated water efficient showerheads, which are available from plumbing and hardware shops, only use 9 litres/ minute.
- By cooling the temperature of showers, people will generally shower for less time and save water and money. In the shower, water and energy can also be saved by always trying to turn the water down, instead of up.
