Is that second beer fridge really necessary?
- Using a second fridge can add approximately $225/year to your power bill. It is often more efficient to have one large fridge than to have a second ‘beer’ fridge. Try saving some space in the main fridge and keep a few bottles of beer/wine there or chill drinks just before you want to drink them.
- If having a party or friends over, instead of using a second fridge, buy some ice and fill up an esky.
- If you cannot get by without a second fridge, try not to have it running all the time. You could turn it on and add drinks just before visitors come; or you could invest in ‘energy timers’ and set it to switch off for 12 or more hours overnight. This can save money and energy and still have your beers cold for you by the time you get home from work.
