Riverine Improvement
The Riverine Improvement Project is focused upon achieving on-ground improvements in the condition of the creeks and rivers running through the urban areas of the Namoi Councils area. It is also intended to provide an opportunity for the involvement of the community in a manner which raises their awareness and appreciation of the creeks and rivers within their towns and villages. The member councils and the Namoi CMA have excellent links with community groups actively engaged in management of the riparian environment, which will be strengthened further through this project.
The member councils have already completed a number of urban riparian projects, some of which are outlined below. These projects have been completed in partnership with, and financially supported by, the Namoi CMA. These projects have also involved working with a range of community and landcare groups.
The Councils are now planning to undertake the next stage of this work thanks to funding provided by the NSW Environmental Trust through the Namoi - Towards a Sustainable Future project.
These projects will focus on a variety of issues include weed eradication, planting of native vegetation and access works to manage community uses for riparian areas, while enhancing environmental values.
